Rome hotel

In one of the most convenient parts of the central for reaching Saint Peter's and Castel Sant’Angelo, as well as many of the loveliest piazzas and monuments of Rome on foot, but also excellently served by public transportation, the Hotel Ara Pacis is located near Ponte Cavour built on the point that once contained the Port of Ripetta. A walk to discover the city can begin from here, from Piazza del Porto di Ripetta, with what remains of the river port that was an authentic jewel of 18th-century architecture: the Navigator's fountain and the two columns that show the levels reached by the Tiber in a succession of floods. In a couple of minutes on foot, you will reach Augustus's Ara Pacis, one of the greatest expressions of classical art from which our hotel takes its name. The splendid sculptures have a naturalness that seems incredible when you realize that the monument was built over 2,000 years ago, in 9 BC. Behind the large modern showcase that preserves the Ara, you will find Augustus's Mausoleum that, with its 87-meter diameter, is the large circular-plan monument in existence. Although ruins are all that remain of the emperor's tomb today, they nevertheless reveal the building's grandeur and monumental quality. The itinerary continues on Via Tomacelli, turning left at the end into Via del Corso; a brief visit to the Chiesa dei Santi Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso for an up-close view of the beautiful dome designed by Pietro da Cortona, one of the stars of the view you will enjoy from the hotel. You will then continue on Via Condotti, the most exclusive shopping district in Rome, were you will find elegant boutiques displaying world-famous designer logos. At the end, the street opens into a marvelous view of the Spanish Steps, with Bernini's unique “Barcaccia” fountain and the impressive staircase of Trinità dei Monti. A stop in one of the center's many trattorias where you can sample the specialties of Roman cuisine, "bucatini all'amatriciana," "carciofi alla giudia" and abbacchio before resuming your stroll. The narrow lanes will lead you to the Trevi Fountain, the most imposing fountain in Rome (20 meters wide and 26 meters high!) and then on to the Pantheon, the ancient Roman temple with a stunning 43-meter diameter dome. The day ends in Piazza Navona, the most Baroque of Roman piazzas, with a singular elongated layout and another spectacular Bernini fountain, the Rivers.
